How to Check Your Traffic Fines (by Plate Number or Emirates ID)
You can check fines for free using any one of these identifiers: vehicle plate number, driving licence number, traffic file (TC) number, fine number, or Emirates ID. Every official platform draws from the same central database, so the result is the same wherever you look.
- Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police e-services, the TAMM app, or EVG.ae.
- Dubai: RTA Dubai website or app, the Dubai Police app, or DubaiNow.
- Any emirate at once: Log into the MOI UAE app with UAE PASS, or use EVG.ae, to surface fines nationwide.
Check Abu Dhabi fines by plate number (no login)
If you do not want to log in, run a check on EVG.ae: select Pay Traffic Fines, choose the Plate Number tab, and enter the exact Plate Source, Category, Code, and Number to view and pay fines by card. A single mismatched field returns an error. The Abu Dhabi Police portal offers the same plate-based inquiry; note that transferring black points still requires a TAMM login with UAE PASS.
A digital check is free on every platform; a printed copy at a service center carries a small fee.
UAE Traffic Fine Discounts & Installments (2026)
Discounts reward early payment and apply automatically at checkout. Abu Dhabi runs a standing early-payment scheme, while Dubai activates discounts periodically through seasonal campaigns.
| When you pay (Abu Dhabi) | Typical reduction |
|---|---|
| Within 60 days of the violation | ~35% |
| Between 61 days and 1 year | ~25% |
| National Day / Ramadan / Eid campaign | Up to 50% |
Dubai: There is no permanent automatic discount as of 2026; the early-payment discount (up to roughly 35–50% within 60 days) is switched on periodically, and seasonal campaigns have offered 25–50%. Confirm the live rate on the official RTA or Dubai Police channel.
Installments: Fines of AED 5,000 or more generally qualify for interest-free installment plans over 3, 6, or 12 months through participating UAE banks.
Reducing old fines (Abu Dhabi Judicial Department)
If your fines have passed the one-year discount window, you can formally request a reduction through the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD). Generate a violation report via TAMM, then submit a “Traffic Fine Reduction Request” on the ADJD e-services portal with your Emirates ID; if approved, the reduced amount appears for payment.
Important: Discounts run per emirate on their own schedule, and severe violations (reckless driving, running red lights, racing, excessive speeding, DUI) are excluded and must be paid in full.
How to Dispute a Traffic Fine in the UAE
If you believe a fine was issued in error for example a radar misread or a wrong plate match you can object through the authority that issued it. File the objection promptly and keep supporting evidence (dashcam footage, photos, location records) ready.
- Dubai fines: Submit an objection through the Dubai Police website or app under the fine-objection / complaint feature, within the stated window.
- Abu Dhabi fines: Raise a dispute via the TAMM portal; complex cases are reviewed by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
- Northern Emirates fines: Object through the MOI UAE app on the relevant fine, or at the traffic department of the emirate where the fine was issued.
Common UAE Traffic Fines & Black Points (2026)
Fines are unified under federal law but enforced locally. These are the penalties motorists encounter most often:
| Violation | Fine (AED) | Black points |
|---|---|---|
| Speeding (under 20 km/h over) | from 300 | 0–4 |
| Speeding (60–80+ km/h over) | up to 3,000 | up to 23 |
| Using a mobile phone while driving | 800 | 4 |
| No seatbelt (driver or passenger) | 400 | 4 |
| Running a red light | 1,000 | 12 (+ impound) |
| Reckless driving / endangering others | 2,000 | 23 (+ 60-day impound) |
| No / altered number plates | up to 10,000 | + impound |
Black points and how to reduce them
Accumulating 24 black points within one year suspends your license three months for a first offence, longer for repeats. Points stay active for 12 months, and a full violation-free year resets your record to zero.
- Traffic awareness course: Removes up to 8 black points (booked via the Dubai Police app or, in Abu Dhabi, via TAMM / Abu Dhabi Police). A fee applies, usually once per year.
- “A Day Without Accident” pledge: Sign via the MOI app and avoid violations on the campaign day to remove 4 points.
- Transfer from a company / rental vehicle: Move points to your personal license via the TAMM app (Abu Dhabi) or the Dubai Police app, selecting that you were the driver and verifying with an OTP.
New UAE Traffic Law: What Changed in 2025
The current rulebook is Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024, in force across all emirates since 29 March 2025. Key changes:
- Minimum driving age lowered to 17 (with full medical and driving tests).
- Jaywalking criminalised on roads with limits of 80 km/h or higher fines up to AED 10,000 and possible jail.
- Tougher DUI and reckless-driving penalties, with fines reaching up to AED 100,000 and licence suspension.
- Hit-and-run can carry up to two years’ imprisonment; causing death by negligent driving carries a minimum AED 50,000 fine plus jail.
- AI camera enforcement automatically detects mobile-phone use, unbelted occupants, and unsafe following distance.
- E-scooter / e-bike rules: riders must be at least 16, wear a helmet and reflective gear; fines AED 300–1,000.
- A new Federal Traffic Council unifies enforcement standards nationwide.
Abu Dhabi Speed Limits & the E311 Update
In April 2025, Abu Dhabi Mobility removed the 120 km/h minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311). The rule had applied to the two leftmost lanes since 2023, and drivers who fell below 120 km/h there were fined AED 400 that minimum-speed fine on E311 no longer applies.
The maximum speed on E311 remains 140 km/h, and it is strictly enforced: Abu Dhabi does not apply the 20 km/h radar buffer used in some other emirates, so exceeding the posted limit by even 1 km/h can trigger a fine. If you prefer a slower pace, keep to the right-hand lanes.
Note: The removal of the minimum applies to E311 specifically. Always follow the posted minimum and maximum signs on each road, as limits vary by location and are reduced automatically (often to 80 km/h) by smart signboards during fog or dust.
Salik vs DARB Tolls (and Checking Salik Without an Account)
The two emirates use different toll technology, and both must be settled before you can renew your vehicle registration.
- Dubai Salik: A windscreen RFID tag scans your vehicle automatically. Each crossing is AED 4, with a daily cap. Top up online or via the app; an unpaid balance triggers a fine.
- Abu Dhabi DARB: No physical tag the system reads your plate and deducts from a prepaid wallet. Tolls apply during peak hours Monday–Saturday (Sundays and public holidays are free); registration is mandatory even for Dubai-registered cars, and insufficient balance triggers a fine.
Check your Salik balance without logging in
If you are in a rental or company car, dial the toll-free Salik line and follow the prompts (account number and PIN), use the balance-check service on the Salik website, or enter your plate at a Salik kiosk in a petrol station no app login required.
Vehicle Registration, Renewal & Cross-Emirate Transfer
You cannot renew registration while fines are outstanding UAE systems are linked, so renewal stays blocked until all fines, Salik/DARB tolls, and black-point “locked” fines are cleared. Cars older than three years need a passed technical inspection, and insurance must be valid (insurers usually issue 13-month policies). After expiry there is a 30-day grace period; beyond that a late fee (around AED 500/month) applies, and driving on an expired registration risks an AED 500 fine, 4 black points, and a 7-day impound.
Paying EVG fines on an expired registration
An expired Mulkiya can lock your file. Open the MOI UAE app, EVG.ae, or TAMM, search by your traffic code or plate, and settle the fines clearing them is a prerequisite before you can test and re-register the vehicle.
Transferring ownership from Dubai to Abu Dhabi
This is an export/import process: the seller clears all liabilities (and obtains a bank NOC if financed), passes inspection at an RTA center, then deregisters the car and surrenders the Dubai plates, which makes the vehicle un-drivable until re-registered. The buyer activates Abu Dhabi insurance and registers via TAMM to collect new plates.
| Service | Authority | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle inspection | RTA / Tasjeel | AED 170 |
| Transfer / export certificate | RTA (Dubai) | AED 120–500 |
| New registration | TAMM (Abu Dhabi) | AED 350–400 |
| New standard plates | Abu Dhabi Police | AED 35–50 |
Avoiding the “plate gap”: Once the Dubai plates are surrendered, the car cannot legally be driven. Use a flatbed recovery truck, buy temporary export plates, or complete the transfer at a testing-and-registration center on the Dubai–Abu Dhabi border so you can fit the new plates on the spot. Register the vehicle on DARB before passing any Abu Dhabi toll gate. The same export/import logic applies when importing a car from abroad, which also requires UAE Customs clearance (5% duty + 5% VAT) and a Vehicle Clearance Certificate before registration.
Minor Accident Responders Across the UAE
For a minor accident with no injuries, police patrols generally do not attend you contact the authorised responder for that emirate to get the official report your insurer needs. For any accident with injuries, call 999 first. Move vehicles to safety before reporting.
| Emirate | Responder | How to report |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi | Saaed | Saaed app or 800 72233 (paid service) |
| Dubai | Dubai Police | Dubai Police app (self-report) or 999 |
| Sharjah | Rafid | Rafid app or 80092 (paid service) |
| Ajman, UAQ, Fujairah, RAK | MOI / Saaed | MOI UAE app, or the Saaed app where used |

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a 50% discount on traffic fines?
A 50% reduction is usually a campaign rate during National Day, Ramadan, or Eid, not a permanent rate. Outside campaigns, Abu Dhabi gives about 35% within 60 days and 25% within a year; the discounted figure appears automatically before payment.
Is there still a minimum speed limit fine on the E311 in Abu Dhabi?
No. In April 2025 Abu Dhabi removed the 120 km/h minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311), so the AED 400 fine for driving below it no longer applies there. The 140 km/h maximum remains and is enforced with no radar buffer.
What is the AED 150 fine in Abu Dhabi?
AED 150 is most commonly associated with a parking violation typically failing to pay the parking fee or not displaying a valid ticket. Exact amounts depend on the violation code, so check the Abu Dhabi Police portal or MOI app for your specific fine.
Can I renew my registration with unpaid fines?
No. All fines, Salik/DARB charges, and black-point “locked” fines must be cleared first, and cars over three years old must pass inspection before the Mulkiya can be renewed.
How long do black points last?
Black points remain active for 12 months. Reaching 24 within that period leads to licence suspension; a clean year resets them to zero.
Note: Fine amounts, fees, discount campaigns and procedures change. Confirm the current figure on the official MOI, Abu Dhabi Police, RTA, or TAMM platform before paying.
